Cindy Hill

Republican • Cheyenne
Superintendent of Public Instruction 2010-2014

Cindy Hill grew up in Wyoming and is a product of Wyoming public schools. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming, and received a master's degree from the University of Michigan in educational policy and administration.

Hill's experience in education combines both private and public sector work. Cindy began her teaching career working with at-risk students. After 15 years in the private sector, she served as one of the principals at Carey Junior High School in Cheyenne.

In November 2010, Cindy was elected Wyoming's State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Following the Legislature's decision in 2013 to reassign many of the duties of the office and leadership of the Department of Education to a newly created Director of Education, Hill filed a lawsuit against Governor Matt Mead, who signed the bill into law, citing the move as unconstitutional. The Wyoming Supreme Court ruled the law unconstitutional and she was reinstated as head of the Department of Education and all duties were restored in April 2014.

In 2014, she ran for Governor but was defeated in the Republican primary election by Matt Mead.

Cindy and her husband Drake are residents of Cheyenne. Drake is an attorney. They have one son, Drew, who graduated from the University of Wyoming in May 2010. [1]
