During the late 1970s, the Wyoming Legislature began establishing county courts in counties where increasing population and the resulting demands on the district and justice of the peace courts proved to be unmanageable. By 1990, 12 county courts had been established and the other 11 counties remained under the justice of the peace system. The conversion was complete by the mid-1990s.
County Court judges became Circuit Court judges in 1995. Renamed Circuit Courts in 2000.
