Superintendent of Public Instruction 1939-1947Esther Louise Anderson was born in Farlington, Kansas, and she attended schools at Greeley, Colorado; Bellingham, Washington; and the State Teachers College at Pittsburgh, Kansas, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree.
After coming to Wyoming in 1925, she taught in the Casper schools. She was a member of state, national, and international women's clubs and was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction November, 1938, and reelected in 1942. At the time she completed her second term of office she was married to Herman Torneden, and the two of them resided in Colorado for a number of years. They later moved back to her hometown of Farlington, Kansas. She died in 1977 and is buried in Girard, Kansas.
