Secretary of the Territory 1870-1873
Herman Glafke was born in Hamburg, Germany on June 20,1840. After immigrating to the United States in 1857 and serving in the Civil War, Glafke was appointed Secretary of Wyoming Territory by President Grant on May 25, 1870 and served until May 1, 1873. He was also publisher of the Cheyenne Leader. He later served as postmaster in Cheyenne from 1873 to 1881 and as deputy internal revenue collector for the district of Wyoming and Colorado. Glafke died in Cheyenne on March 25, 1912.
