Herman V.S. Groesbeck


Wyoming Supreme Court 1890-1897

Herman V.S. Groesbeck was born on July 8, 1849 in Chittenango, New York. After teaching school and practicing law in several states, he came to Laramie, Wyoming, in 1880. He was a county attorney, city attorney, and member of the territorial house of representatives. Groesbeck was elected to the Supreme Court in September 1890 and served six years. In 1896 he moved to Washington, D.C. to be general counsel to the Federal Land Department. Within a couple years he returned to Wyoming and resumed his legal practice. During the early part of the twentieth century, he campaigned for the Socialist Party. In 1924 he moved to Schenectady, New York, to practice law. After being re-admitted back into the Republican Party, he became an assistant U.S. Attorney for the northern district of New York in 1928. Groesbeck died in Syracuse, New York on June 28, 1929.
