John A. Barrasso

Born July 21, 1952, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Barrasso graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1974. Four years later, he earned the M. D. degree in medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine. After residency at Yale Medical School, he began private practice as an orthopedic surgeon in Casper, and chief of staff of the Wyoming Medical Center.

He was elected to the Wyoming State Senate in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. He was appointed to the U. S. Senate on June 22, 2007, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sen. Craig L. Thomas. Barrasso took the oath of office on June 25, 2007.
