Superintendent of Public Instruction 1919-1935Katharine A. Morton was born in Brown County, Kansas on October 4, 1879. She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1897, and attended Northwestern University in 1901-02.
She began teaching in 1903, and was employed in the Cheyenne schools for two years. Morton served as a member of Wyoming State Council of National Defense 1917-1918. She was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction, serving from January 6, 1919, until January 7, 1935, being elected to this office for four terms; in 1921 elected president of the Wyoming State Teachers' Association and was a member of several educational organizations and of women's clubs.
