Superintendent of Public Instruction 1899-1907Thomas T. Tynan, was born January 6, 1861 in Ontario, Canada. He graduated from Oxford Collegiate Institute, and Model School, class of 1881, at Woodstock.
Tynan came to Wyoming in 1882, where he obtained a position with a mercantile firm in the northern part of the Territory. He pursued this occupation until November 1887, when he became associated with F.V. Sommers in the establishment and publication of the Sheridan Enterprise, Sheridan, Wyoming. Severing his connections with this paper August 1890, and he accepted a position with a mercantile firm in Sheridan, remaining there until the summer of 1892. Tynan was elected clerk of the Sheridan County District Court in 1894, and Sheridan County Clerk in 1896. He was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction, serving from January 2, 1899 until January 5, 1903, reelected and served from January 5, 1903 until January 7, 1907.
