Territorial Treasurer 1875-1876, 1877-1879Amasa R. Converse was born on March 26, 1842 in Hinsdale, Massachuesetts. He came to Cheyenne in 1867 and soon had extensive business and livestock interests. He served as Territorial Treasurer from 1875 to 1876 and from 1877 to 1879. Converse died on June 8, 1885 in New York City and is buried in Three Rivers, Michigan.
Converse is responsible for bringing two governors to Wyoming. He recruited Francis E. Warren to be a clerk in his merchantile store and he hired John B. Kendrick as his ranch foreman. Converse County is named after him.
