George E. Abbott

George E. Abbott was born on November 20, 1858 in Pittsfield, Illinois. He came to Wyoming in 1883 and was a bookkeeper for the First National Bank in Cheyenne. In time, he became president of the bank and was associated with the Converse Cattle Company. Active in the Republican Party, he served as state senator for many years, was elected State Treasurer in 1898, and during World War I, was director of the Liberty Loan drives. He was later employed with the local organization of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. Abbott died in Cheyenne on August 23, 1942.
