State Treasurer 1895-1899, 1903Henry G. Hay was born on October 31, 1847 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He came to Wyoming about 1870 and was US Surveyor for five years, and has the distinction of surveying the 1st mile of the government survey in Wyoming. In the following years he was involved with several prominent financial ventures in Cheyenne and Laramie, including cattle, grocery, and the organization of the Stock Growers National Bank. Hay was elected State Treasurer in 1894 and again in 1902. During his second term, he resigned on September 19, 1903 to work for a steel corporation in New York City. He later become assistant treasurer of the United States Steel Corporation in Gary, Indiana. He died on August 18, 1919 in Gary and was buried in Vincennes, Indiana.
Henry married Ella Bullock on November 18, 1874. After her death, he married Bessie Robbins on October 12, 1897.
