Territorial Treasurer 1869-1872
John W. Donnellan was born in County Clare, Ireland, in 1841. In 1851 his family immigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio. After serving in the Civil War, he moved to Cheyenne in 1867 and entered the mercantile business. In 1868 he started a bank in Laramie. He was appointed Territorial Treasurer by President Grant on December 21, 1869 and served until October 26, 1872. Donnellan returned to Laramie where he as a probate judge, bank president and president of the Laramie Board of Trade. He later moved to Salt Lake City and then Sacramento, California. He died in Sacramento on July 26, 1917.
