Mart T. Christensen was born in Denmark on July 27, 1883. After his family immigrated to the United States, he worked in mines and ranches in south central Colorado. After graduating from the University of Colorado in Boulder, he published a newspaper in Baggs, Wyoming, and was secretary of the Wyoming Press Association from 1930 until his death. He later worked as clerk in the state Senate and House of Representatives, registrar in the Federal Land Office in Cheyenne, state excise tax collector, and state director of the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) Wyoming Writers Project from October 1935 to March 1938. He was elected Treasurer in 1938 and Secretary of State in 1942.
He died in office on October 12, 1944.
